About Us
At La Casa Vieja, we believe the best meals are the ones that feel like home. Inspired by the recipes passed down from our abuelita’s kitchen, we serve traditional Mexican dishes made with love, patience, and honest ingredients.
Every plate tells a story—of family gatherings, slow-simmered stews, handmade tortillas, and the comforting aroma of a home-cooked meal. Located in the heart of Rogers Park, we’re proud to share the flavors and traditions that shaped our childhood and continue to bring people together.
This is more than just food. It’s Grandma’s food. And you’re always welcome at our table.

Our History
La Casa Vieja was born from the heart of family traditions—where food wasn’t just a meal, but an expression of love, care, and culture. Before there was a dining room full of guests, there was a small kitchen filled with laughter, stories, and the rich aromas of home-cooked meals. That kitchen, in a humble home in Mexico, is where it all began.
In that kitchen, every dish had meaning. Corn was hand-ground for tortillas, chilies were fire-roasted for sauces, and stews simmered slowly on the stove while the family gathered to share stories. It was a place where time seemed to slow down and every meal was a reason to celebrate. Those meals brought people together—young and old, friends and neighbors—because everyone was welcome, and no one left hungry.
When life brought our family to Chicago, those traditions came with us. The cold winds of the city couldn’t erase the warmth of our roots. With each pot of beans, each handmade tamal, and each ladle of caldo, we held on to the flavors and values that shaped us: simplicity, generosity, and the belief that food should feed the soul.
La Casa Vieja exists today as a tribute to that way of life. It’s a place where we recreate those same dishes with the same care, using time-honored techniques and the ingredients that give Mexican food its depth and richness. Here, we don’t chase trends—we honor heritage.
Whether you’re enjoying a quiet meal or celebrating with loved ones, we want you to feel what we felt growing up: comfort, joy, and the warmth of being cared for. That’s the spirit behind every dish we serve. That’s the spirit of La Casa Vieja—Grandma’s food, just the way it’s meant to be.
This isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a living memory of where we come from and what matters most. Every detail, from the hand-painted tiles to the smell of fresh masa in the air, is meant to transport you to that familiar, welcoming place we all carry inside: the warmth of an old house, the sound of laughter in the kitchen, and the taste of something made just for you. At La Casa Vieja, we’re not just serving food—we’re sharing a piece of our home with every guest who walks through our door.
We Create Flavour
Flavor is more than seasoning—it’s memory, heritage, and emotion. At La Casa Vieja, we create flavor by honoring the past and cooking with purpose. Our dishes begin with fresh ingredients, traditional techniques, and the kind of care that can’t be rushed. From slow-braised meats to hand-pressed tortillas, every bite is crafted to reflect the deep, layered taste of authentic Mexican cuisine. It’s flavor that tells a story—bold, comforting, and always made from the heart.

Wow! Best Mexican place on Clark in Rogers Park. The family is so warm— great service and very welcoming. You can tell they are proud of their recipes, and they have every reason to be. Salsas on point, the guisado de puerco was excellent, and Kevin suggested the quesadilla de chicharron, which I loved, made with a huge homemade tortilla. We will make this our regular spot. Thank you Carlotta and Kevin!

The food is amazing, I can tell they put their soul in it. I did, however, only try tacos de Asada and tortada de Asada so anything else on the menu I’m unsure of. I do wish they had a public restroom but other than that the service is great and so is the food.
